Newcastle Sixth Form College Drama Students Measured For Success

14 July

A Level Drama and Theatre students at Newcastle Sixth Form College last week enjoyed a lively interactive workshop lead by internationally renowned theatre company, Cheek by Jowl.

Led by Marcus Roche, Cheek by Jowl Assistant Director, and using Shakespeare’s classic text, Measure for Measure, the workshop included learning how Cheek by Jowl as a 21st Century theatre practitioner approaches Shakespearean texts, as well as developing the students’ own skills as performers and directors. Students also found out more about the history of the international touring theatre company, started in 1981 by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod.

Marcus said: “We have had a brilliant time at Newcastle Sixth Form College. It was great to do such an in-depth workshop on Shakespeare with such a talented group of young people.”

Kurtis Thompson, 17, said: “I really enjoyed exploring the depth of analysis required to help an actor perform to the best of their ability and I learned some great tips to help improve my acting in the future. Thanks to Cheek by Jowl for visiting us; it was a fantastic experience.”
