Careers Talk on Heritage Inspires Students

17 June

A video conference organised by NE1, entitled 'Getting Hired in Heritage with Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums' was attended by a whole group of NSFC students, with many considering careers in the heritage sector after they progress to university.

The conference had a range of speakers talking about different roles, experiences and aspects of working in the heritage sector, and provided our students with an excellent insight into the sector and specifically opportunities in the North East. It highlighted the skills required to enter the sector.

NSFC's group was led by history teacher Abbie Davison, who received the following comments from students following the event.

'It was very informative and gave a great range of examples of people's experiences in the heritage sector. It was a great opportunity!' Meg Anderson

'It was really interesting, it showed just how many opportunities there are in the museums sector and how the organisation challenges traditional thinking around museums. It was interesting to hear of opportunity of online work experience through TWAM as well.' Katie Wright

NSFC would like to thank both NE1 and Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums for their support and fo organising this unique and innovative careers event.
