Bright spark Nadim is recognised for his achievement

22 March

The bright 19-year-old Newcastle Sixth Form College student has been named as one of the best performing students within his community in the UK and Northern Ireland.

Nadim, from Gateshead, achieved A* in both Maths and Economics A Levels last year, and grade As in Business Studies and Further Maths.

This year he is studying A Level Physics and additional Further Maths in preparation for the next stage of his education.

He has received unconditional offers to study Economics from University College London and Newcastle University, as well as The London School of Economics, which is a reflection of Nadim’s fantastic achievements to date.

However, he is also waiting to hear from Warwick University before making a decision on where he will study towards a career in investment banking.

Nadim, who was born in England but went to live in his parents’ native country of Bangladesh as a child, said he was honoured to receive the recognition.

“It came as a great surprise because I had no idea that I was being considered by the Bangladesh National Commission,” said Nadim.

“I have enjoyed every minute of studying and still love coming to Newcastle Sixth Form College every day. My tutors have been excellent, especially my Economics teacher Aaron Brownlees. Without his help and support, I know that getting good grades and offers to attend the top universities would have been near impossible.

“When I didn’t get an offer for university last year, I wasn’t too disappointed, but I’m definitely looking forward to going this year.”

Steve Gibson, Principal of Newcastle Sixth Form College, congratulated Nadim on his award.

He said: “It’s tremendous to see Nadim being recognised in this way because he is an excellent student who worked extremely hard to get the grades he has achieved.

“He’s already been offered places at some great universities this year and we wish him well. He has a very promising future ahead of him.”
