Our Year 12 A Level Drama students had the incredible opportunity to see the acclaimed National Theatre production of War Horse at the Sunderland Empire. The students enjoyed the performance, providing a live theatre experience that brought the story to life.
Following the show, we welcomed Tom Sturgess, the lead actor from the production, to the college. Tom spent time with our students, participating in a Q&A session and leading a dedicated Drama workshop. His insights into the play’s staging, character development, and the emotional impact of theatre offered our students a glimpse into professional practice in the arts.
This opportunity allowed our students to deepen their understanding of War Horse and gain an invaluable perspective on theatre production. As part of their Year 13 written exam, Drama students will reflect on live theatre performances, analysing production elements and performance choices.
We are grateful to Tom Sturgess and Sunderland Empire for supporting our Drama programme and inspiring the next generation of theatre artists and enthusiasts.
