Last week, 30 of our dedicated A Level English Literature students had the fantastic opportunity to travel to Durham to attend the 2024 Shakespeare Festival. This visit provided a unique and immersive experience, bringing their studies to life and deepening their understanding of one of Shakespeare's most compelling plays.
The trip's highlight was watching the Elysium Theatre Company's powerful and thought-provoking performance of Othello. The dynamic staging and emotional delivery left a lasting impression on our students, sparking discussions about themes, character development, and the significance of the play historically and in contemporary society.
This live performance was particularly enriching for our Year 13 students, who are preparing to study Othello for their upcoming A Level exams next summer. Witnessing the play performed live allowed them to see how the text is brought to life beyond the page, offering valuable insights into Shakespeare's language, character motivations, and theatrical techniques.
This experience has undoubtedly strengthened their understanding and appreciation of the play, equipping them better for their exams. We are proud to provide our students with opportunities that inspire a passion for literature, foster critical thinking, and bring their academic studies to life in exciting ways.
