Former NSFC student is now completing her MSci in Psychology and Philosophy at the University of Oxford. She describes her time at Oxford as “incredible” and says she feels “really fortunate” to have had the opportunity to study there.

Coming from a small town in the North-East, she admits the workload and environment were a challenge at first, but her love for Psychology kept her motivated. Studying at Oxford has also given her opportunities to assist with research, join a research group, and attend conferences focused on improving youth mental health.

As part of her Master’s project, she recently returned to NSFC to work with students on a questionnaire about co-rumination – the process of repeatedly discussing problems with others. Their feedback will help her develop a tool that considers who people co-ruminate with and whether this happens online or offline.

She credits NSFC with giving her the confidence to apply to Oxford in the first place.

“For the longest time I was opposed to applying as I didn’t think I’d get in. My personal development tutor encouraged me to go for it, and my teachers helped me prepare for my interview. I couldn’t have got to Oxford without their support.”
