MAJOR AWARD FOR NEWCASTLE SIXTH FORM COLLEGE PHYSICS TEACHER

We are delighted to announce that Graham Davison, who teaches Physics is the winner of the prestigious Lord Glenamara Award for Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, (STEM) 2020. These awards recognise the most inspiring teachers and education professionals who are helping to ensure that young people in the North East achieve their potential. The awards presentation takes place at Durham University in March.

The award is in memory of Lord Glenamara who was a Head Teacher in Blyth before becoming an MP; he later served as Education Secretary under Harold Wilson. At the time of his death in May 2012, the 99 year old was the longest serving member of the House of Lords.

The awards acknowledge the highest quality teaching and inspirational teachers and are organised by the Department for Education in collaboration with major universities including Cambridge, Durham and Trinity College, Oxford.

Graham Davison commented on his nomination and award: ‘I am delighted and honoured to have won this award. The students at NSFC are fantastic and it is a pleasure to be recognised in this way by my peers.’

His passion for Physics shines through in his enthusiastic and energetic teaching, and his results are among the very best in the country for Physics. In September 2019, our Physics A Level results were one of the many highlights, with 83.6% of our students gaining an A*-B Grade. These sorts of results underpin the whole college approach to student progress at A Level, and we are now among the top 25% nationally for student progress at A Level.
