NSFC LAW STUDENTS INTERVIEW SUPREME COURT JUSTICE

27 March

A Level Law Students at Newcastle Sixth Form College had the extremely rare opportunity interview the newest member of the UK’s Supreme Court in a live Skype conference.

The interview with Supreme Court Justice Lord Sales took place at the college, with 10 students given the opportunity to put questions to the Supreme Court Justice about his role, specific cases and his views on a wide range of issues. This extremely rare insight into the work of the Supreme Court and direct access to a Supreme Court Justice was organised by Law teacher Beth Thompson, and on application Lord Sales specifically selected Newcastle Sixth Form College for the opportunity to host the interview.

Students were given a 45 minute interview with one to one questions and a detailed insight into the career, background and views of one of the country’s most significant legal professionals. Commenting on the session, Beth Thompson commented: ‘This was an outstanding and rare opportunity to speak directly with a Supreme Court Judge and we feel very privileged to have been selected for the opportunity. Supreme Court Justice Sales provided some real inspiration to our students and using his own personal experience of working his way up through the legal profession, I am sure he will have given our students the motivation and encouragement they need to be successful in their chosen careers.’
