Newcastle Sixth Form College represented the North East region at the National Final of the Bar Mock Trial Competition 2026 which took place on Saturday, 21st March 2026, at the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

Organised by the educational charity Young Citizens the event saw teams of students aged 15–18 from across the UK compete in real courtrooms before practicing judges and barristers.

In the finals, NSFC lined up against 23 other teams from across the UK, and put in an amazing performance, as this is the first time NSFC have ever entered the competition.

The competition allows students to work in a real-life scenario and under the scrutiny of some of the major figures in our legal system including high court justices and leading barristers. The day long event provided our students with an incredible experience and we were so proud of their achievement.

The format for the event see teams prosecute and defend specially written criminal cases, such as those involving witness intimidation or actual bodily harm. Students took on various courtroom roles and score points based on their approach to the trials. The trials were presided over by senior legal professionals and members of the judiciary.
