Hands-On Geography Fieldwork Supports NEA Preparation

Students studying Geography at Newcastle Sixth Form College recently visited South Shields and Ouseburn to undertake fieldwork in preparation for their Non-Examined Assessments (NEAs).

The trip gave students the opportunity to collect valuable primary data while exploring regeneration projects within the two locations. By experiencing these environments first-hand, students were able to deepen their understanding of how places change over time and how regeneration can impact local communities, businesses and the wider environment.

Throughout the day, students applied the knowledge and techniques they have developed in lessons during the academic year. They also gained practical experience using clinometers to collect fieldwork data, helping to strengthen the investigative and analytical skills required for their coursework.

Fieldwork forms an important part of Geography studies, enabling students to connect classroom learning with real-world examples and gain a greater understanding of the topics they explore throughout the course.

As well as being a productive day of research and data collection, the trip gave students the chance to reflect on everything they have learned this year and enjoy spending time together outside the classroom.

And, of course, no successful field trip would be complete without a well-earned ice cream in the summer sunshine!

We look forward to seeing how the data collected during the visit supports students in their upcoming NEA projects and wish them every success as they continue their Geography studies.
