Eco Campus Silver

We have been awarded the EcoCampus Silver award!

29 November

We are pleased to announce that Newcastle Sixth Form College has recently been awarded the EcoCampus Silver award. EcoCampus is a national Environmental Management System (EMS) and award scheme for the further and higher education sector. The scheme allows universities and colleges to be recognised for addressing key issues of environmental sustainability, including carbon reduction.

Our success has been the result of a range of initiatives including reducing electricity usage, using recycled paper and improving waste disposal signage to encourage best practice.

Peter Groark, Lecturer in Geography and Environmental Studies and Newcastle Sixth Form College’s Green Champion, has said “Climate change and environmental pollution are serious threats to our planet. Here at Newcastle Sixth Form College we recognise that we have a part to play in tackling these problems. We aim to become a more sustainable campus with an emphasis on reducing our carbon footprint and educating our students about the importance of sustainable development. Achieving the Silver EcoCampus Award is an excellent achievement, but is only the beginning for us. We would like to use our platform here at the Sixth Form to educate and involve students in achieving our targets and making Newcastle Sixth Form an Eco-Friendly Campus.”

We are now working our way towards the Gold award and have set ourselves 3 targets, which we are encouraging all staff and students to help us achieve.
