General entry criteria
Our general entry criteria is six GCSE's at Grade 9-4 including English or Mathematics at grade 5 or above.
If you have not achieved a GCSE Grade 4 or above in either English or Mathematics, you will be required to re-sit this subject in your first year of A Levels with us.
If you have not achieved a GCSE Grade 4 in both English and Mathematics, you will not be able to study A Levels with us, but may be able to study our 'Year 12 Access' programme. Typical requirements for this are 5 GCSE's with a combination of Grade 3 and 4.
You are expected to have achieved at least a GCSE Grade 5 or above in the subjects you wish to study at A Level. If you are applying for A Levels in subjects not previously studied, your GCSE Grade in a similar subject will be used.
Art, Craft and Design
You will need GCSE Grade 5 or above in Art, or a suitable portfolio of work which can be assessed prior to acceptance to study the A Level course. (This will be discussed at your consultation).
Biology/Chemistry/Physics
You need GCSE Grade 6 or above in Mathematics.
Taking Double Science? You need grades 6/6 or above.
Taking Triple Science? You need at least a grade 6 in the science(s) you want to study.
To study A Level Physics, you must combine this subject with A Level Maths.
To study A Level Chemistry, you must combine with another Science A Level.
Computer Science
You will need GCSE Grade 6 or above in Mathematics.
You will need to have studied Computing/IT at GCSE with a Grade 5, or provide evidence of coding programming with a genuine interest in the the subject. (This would be discussed at your consultation).
Further Maths
You need GCSE Grade 7 or above in Mathematics, and also need to study A Level Maths.
Mathematics
You need GCSE Grade 6 or above in Mathematics.
Politics
You will need GCSE Grade 5 in either English Literature or History
Psychology
You will need GCSE Grade 5 or above in Mathematics.
