Government & Politics students spend a morning with Sharon Hodgson MP

28 November

Newcastle Sixth Form College Government & Politics students spend a morning with Sharon Hodgson MP, Labour MP for Washington and Sunderland West.

Debate was lively with plenty of questions asked by students, covering a wide range of topics from voting reform, honesty within politics and mansion tax, to Ed Milliband's recent televised debate with Myleene Klass.

A2 Government & Politics student Dom Fernandez, 17, said: "Today's visit was a good opportunity to get a real insight into the work that a local MP does, as well as providing contextual knowledge which I can then apply to my studies."

Steve Gibson, Principal of Newcastle Sixth Form College, added: “We would like to thank Sharon Hodgson MP for giving her time to come in and speak to our students. It’s fantastic that our students have been given this chance to debate issues that are important to them with one of our local MP’s, especially as they represent a number of first time and future generation voters”
