NSFC Modern Foreign Languages students have got the Gift of the Gab

09 March

Students studying languages at Newcastle Sixth Form College enjoyed a visit from Newcastle University Modern Foreign Language students this week.

As well as a presentation on their experiences of studying languages at university, including their time spent studying abroad; the university students also promoted their languages magazine, Gift of the Gab. The Newcastle University representatives were keen to encourage Newcastle Sixth Form College students to also get involved in production of the magazine.

Harriet Ritchie from Newcastle University said: “Our magazine, Gift of the Gab, is entirely student led, and so is a good opportunity for students who are currently studying modern foreign languages to practise their language skills in a completely different way – as well as gaining writing, publishing and editing skills at the same time.”

Newcastle Sixth Form College A Level Spanish student, Mirren Wilson said: “I am hoping to study Modern Languages at university, so it has been useful to meet current languages students from Newcastle University – it was interesting to hear their experiences of studying abroad, and they offered some good advice.

“I’m also interested in getting involved in the Gift of the Gab magazine – it sounds fun and will be another chance for me to practice my language skills outside of the classroom.”
