Staying on at school v Newcastle Sixth Form College: Easier than you think!

Towards the end of Year 11, school begins to become more of a chore and a loss of motivation to learn often occurs, so Newcastle Sixth Form College (NSFC) becomes the best place to be.

Not only is it home to a vast number of passionate and well-qualified teachers who are able to teach well by just being interesting, but NSFC also offers learning in the form of numerous enrichment activities; from nail art to science fiction clubs, rock-climbing to theory test practice, and with over 70 varied enrichment activities, there is something for everyone.

NSFC also offers a much more extensive range of subjects than most schools; the curriculum offers many modern and thought-provoking subjects such as Law, Psychology and a whole list of others, some of which are not offered at most high schools.

Making the decision of choosing NSFC as opposed to staying on a school may not be easy. One worry many have is making new friends, but making new friends is all part of the experience. The diversity of students and freedom to be yourself means that there is no reason for anyone to be left behind.

A stepping stone to university

The distance from home as well as the work-load having differed from school can be challenging to adapt to, yet the two factors work together. Being away from home and its distractions gives you more time to use College facilities to revise and complete homework, so once at home you have plenty of time to spend with your family or taking part in sporting/fitness activities.

Much more so than school, NSFC works as a great stepping stone towards university. The college environment allows you to work independently, as well as having responsibility for your own studies.

Travelling to College and spending the day within the city can increase independence for some, like me, who travel from further afield such as Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
Enrichment activities as well as opportunities to become a Student Ambassador (representing the College at events) and trips such as the visit to Parliament and the Supreme Court with Law, all boost your CV and personal statement for university, and increase your life experience.

Choosing NSFC is a much easier choice than may at first think, but if you enjoy learning in an interesting way which appeals to you, there is no place like it.
