STUDENTS INTRODUCED TO NET ZERO NEWCASTLE

20 April

Yesterday, it was a pleasure to welcome Tim, Laura, Rachel, and Reece, Climate Change Support Officers from Newcastle City Council.

Speaking to our Year 13 Geography students about their Net Zero Programme, they gave a brilliant overview on their strategy, gave a detailed Q&A session, and escorted our students on a trip to the Helix.

The ‘Net Zero Newcastle – 2030 Action Plan’ sets out the scale of the challenge for the city and the areas where we must take action to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Created following widespread consultation, it sets out over 150 ways in which residents, businesses and organisations can work together to achieve our collective Net Zero future.

Students then visited The Helix, a new science and innovation hub in Newcastle and got to experience the net zero strategy first hand, heard from experts about low-carbon heating and sustainability, and spoke about career and advancement opportunities.

Following this, students investigated the District Energy Centre, a cutting-edge strategy that offers affordable heating to nearby homes and businesses with a goal of supplying energy to the larger city in the future.
