It was great to welcome back Dr. Peter Hoare, STEM Outreach Officer from Newcastle University.
As part of his "Spectroscopy in a Suitcase" lecture, Peter brought portable desk top machines to measure infrared and NMR spectra, and talked the students through spectral analysis. This gave students an opportunity to handle and see specialised equipment not available to schools or sixth forms.
This visit was an excellent way to directly demonstrate to our 2nd year Chemistry students what we teach in their theory.
